This position in the UCIT Center for Simulations and Virtual Environments Research (UCSIM) is responsible for developing research techniques using virtual and augmented reality,
simulations, 3D modeling, and 3D animations to enhance and facilitate the research and academic objectives of the university. The primary responsibilities for this position include
designing, storyboarding, and inspiring the visual elements of research and educational simulations; developing hard surface and organic models, sets, and props suitable for use in
virtual environments; creating 2D textures and skins for 3D models; rigging and animating characters and NPCs; applying lightmapping and shading elements to scenes and sets; and
working with a team of artists, programmers, and developers to create the best virtual experience possible within time and budget constraints.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:Experience integrating and developing simulations, virtual and augmented reality applications, and 3D virtual environments for research and academic projects in a higher education environment.
:Experience with Maya, Blender, 3DS Max, or similar 3D modeling programs.
:Graphic design experience using Photoshop or GIMP or other graphic design programs.
:Experience with the Unity3D game engine preferred, or other game engine experience.
:Knowledge or previous experience with 3D content pipelines (Maya/Max/Photoshop into game engine).
:Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer
:Engineering, or related degree; :OR: an Associate's degree with two (2) years' experience ; or four (4) years of basic to intermediate level computer hardware related experience.
:Possesses working knowledge of commonly:used concepts, practices, and procedures and contributes through support, using established processes, methods, and systems.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
:Experience with developing models for virtual or augmented reality (HTC Vive,
:Oculus Rift, Microsoft Hololens, Google Glass).
:Experience with motion capture technologies and/or the ability to rig and animate human and non:human character models.
:Drawing, sculpting, painting, and other traditional fine art skills.
:Knowledgeable in other Adobe programs (Illustrator, Flash, etc).
This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
