Post Doctoral Fellow
A and S Department of Physics
UNIVERSITY of CINCINNATI
The Experimental Neutrino Group in the Department of Physics at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for TWO Post:Doctoral Research Fellow positions. These positions will be working on the NOvA and DUNE experiments, and on Fermilabs Short:Baseline Neutrino program (SBN). The successful candidates for these positions would be based at Fermilab, and be expected to contribute to data analysis efforts in NOvA and SBN, as well as to hardware and software development for DUNE. Responsibilities for one of these positions include a leading role in commissioning a dedicated NOvA calibration detector.
NOvA is the present flagship experiment in operation at Fermilab, seeking to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy, probe CP violation in the leptonic sector, and measure the neutrino mixing parameters with unprecedented precision. The DUNE/LBNF project is the highest on:shore priority of the US HEP program and aims to make definitive measurements of neutrino properties, while providing a machine for discovery in neutrino physics. The SBN program is scheduled to start operations in 2018, and is expected to provide a definite answer to the question of the existence of light sterile neutrinos, while developing extensive expertise in utilizing LAr TPC technology to conduct neutrino measurements.
The Experimental Neutrino Group at the University of Cincinnati has leading roles on multiple neutrino experiments or projects, namely on NOvA, MINOS/MINOS+, Daya Bay, MiniBooNE, MicroBooNE, LArIAT, and DUNE. Further, the Department's High:Energy Physics group has active programs in both experimental and theoretical research, with experimental efforts including the BELLE, BELLE II, BaBar, and LHCb Intensity Frontier experiments, and theoretical efforts focused on flavor physics and dark matter.
We are seeking applicants with a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics or a closely related area. We will begin reviewing applications August 1, 2017 and continue until the position is filled.
Interested candidates should contact Profs. Alex Sousa ( ) and Adam Aurisano ( ) for more information on the positions. Interested and qualified applicants must complete our online application at jobs.uc.edu (Requisition 20422). A cover letter, a statement describing research interests, a curriculum vitae, and a list of publications will be requested in PDF format in the application procedure. Applicants should arrange to have at least three letters of reference sent separately to University of Cincinnati, as a multi:national and culturally diverse university, is committed to providing an inclusive, equitable and diverse place of learning and employment. As part of a complete job application you will be asked to include a Contribution to Diversity and Inclusion statement.
The University of Cincinnati is an Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer / M / F / Veteran / Disabled.
