he University of Cincinnati (UC) Bearcat Bands consist of multiple programs for students from all areas of study within the UC system. These include: Marching Band, Pep Bands, Concert Bands, Jazz Bands, Color Guard/Visual Ensemble, Marching and Concert Percussion Ensembles, and various other small ensembles.Student leadership includes the Band Council, which consists of student members of the band and Tau Beta Sigma, national honorary band sorority. The Director is under general supervision from the Dean of Students andconducts, manages, and oversees the operation of all university bands open to campus students.
Under general supervision from the Director of Bands, assist in the musical, visual, and personnel preparations of the university band program for performances and functions and act as the Band Director in his/her absence.
:Assist the Director of Bearcat Bands in the administration and instruction of the Bearcat Band program;
:Conduct, lead, arrange, and/or monitor band sub:group events such as rehearsals and performances;
:Act as the Band Director in his/her absence;
:Perform as a professional musician;
:Actively complete musical research, clinics, and other administrative tasks;
:Order and maintain inventories of appropriate equipment, instruments, music and uniforms;
:Attend meetings, serve on committees, and retain current students in the program while recruiting new members
:Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree with one (1) year of experience; :OR: Associates degree with three (3) years of experience; :OR: five (5) years related experience. Degree must be in Music Education, Performance, or related field. Experience must include work with musical and visual ensembles such as marching and concert bands, jazz ensembles, and/or color guard. Experience may also require at least one (1) year supervision.
PreferredQualifications:Masters degree in Music Education, Performance, or related field with one (1) year of experience including musical ensemble directing at the university level. Experience may also require at least one (1) year supervision. Ideal candidates will have experience in professional music performance and educational venues, conducting, collaborative marching show designing, outreach, public relations and communications, presenting clinics, and working with successful band programs at the high school and university levels, with preference given to those with documented experience in jazz, as a woodwind specialist, and in working and traveling with university athletic bands.
