Reporting to the Associate Director of Resident Education and Development, each Assistant Director provides leadership for and manages a designated portion of the residence halls. The Assistant Directors are responsible for creating conditions and experiences among students, staff, and faculty in the residence halls that foster the academic and personal development of students, contribute to students' retention and graduation, promote the development of civil and celebratory communities within the halls and throughout campus, and facilitate the maintenance of a safe, secure, living:learning environment for 6,700 residents.
:Provides direct supervision to master's:level area coordinators overseeing two residential neighborhoods.
:Indirectly supervises full:time live:in community coordinators andresident advisors,
:Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of living:learning programs and academic services in residence halls.
:Develops and facilitates, and maintains positive relationships with academic partners
:Participates in the recruitment and selection of professional staff.
:Acts as an Alternate Judicial Affairs Administrator for the department and institution.
:Coordinates leadership development efforts in residence halls and advises student organizations.
:Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and publications.
:Assists in development and management of budget.
:Chairs or serves on departmental, divisional, or university committees as appropriate.
:Represents residence halls at university and community events (recruitment, etc.)
:Assists students, parents, and all university community members in the resolution of concerns and makes appropriate referrals.
:Performs various administrative tasks.
:Provides 24:hour availability via phone.
:Serves as Director's designated representative as needed.
:Other duties as assigned.
Minimum requirements and qualifications: Bachelor's degree with three (3) years experience in Student Personnel, Counseling, higher education or related field. Experience must be in residence hall administration or related field.
Preferred qualifications: Master's degree in student personnel or closely related field and a minimum of 3 years full:time experience beyond the master's degree. Experience in a live:in position is strongly preferred. Familiarity with large, public institutions and with urban campuses is desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills, writing skills, public speaking skills, and basic computer competence are essential, as is an ability to interact effectively in a diverse community. The successful candidate will be able to balance multiple tasks, to work effectively as part of a team, to demonstrate flexibility, and to demonstrate a high tolerance for ambiguity in a period of organizational change. This is a twelve:month, live:out position.
