Did you know that you can use renewable or reclaimed fuel oil to power your Diesel engine truck? You can save money by using French fry grease, straight vegetable oil, or a bio diesel mixture in place of Diesel fuel.

American Tank offers a hybrid fuel system that is a two tank system. We like the dual tank system because objectives such as workable fuel viscosity, complete combustion, proper lubrication, and reliable cold climate operation can be easily achieved. Your factory fuel system is kept mostly intact, and diesel fuel is contained in the factory fuel tank. Your auxiliary fuel tank will be used to hold the vegetable oil. You will choose the diesel fuel or the vegetable oil with the flip of a switch mounted on the dash. The factory installed fuel level gauge will display the fuel level in either tank depending upon which fuel source is being used. If you find yourself in a situation where vegetable oil is not available, fill both tanks with diesel fuel and use the system as a traditional auxiliary fuel system. We think that a hybrid fuel system should be easy to install, easy to use, and easy to maintain by the average person.

Convert your Dodge, Chevy, GM, or Ford diesel pickup into a hybrid fuel vehicle with this auxiliary fuel system from American Tank. This system can be safely used with diesel fuel, bio diesel fuel, or non hydrogenated vegetable oil. This fuel system starts with a 40 gallon aluminum fuel tank and includes all parts necessary for basic installation by the average “Do It Yourselfer”. Many states now allow you to deduct the cost of a hybrid conversion for your current vehicle. Check with a tax professional to find out if tax credits are available in your area.

American's auxiliary fuel tanks are constructed of .125 inch 3003 marine grade diamond plate aluminum with a brightly polished finish. This fuel tank was designed specifically for use as a vegetable oil tank and features a built in heat exchange designed just for this capacity and design of tank. This is not our standard diesel tank with a “universal drop in” heater screwed into the top. The tank also has a sending unit installed that will display the fuel level on your factory fuel gauge. Fuel slosh and engine starvation are never a problem due to our unique triple baffle system that is built into every tank we sell. This tank measures 57” across the bed, is only 12” wide to use a minimal amount of bed space, and has an overall height of 18”. It will fit under most bed covers.

Don't settle for an inferior quality tank that is designed for fuel storage, or a so-called auxiliary tank that is not offered with an installation kit. This is a complete WVO, SVO, or bio diesel fuel system that will also work with diesel fuel. Many people have chosen to support their local economy and reduce our nation’s dependency of foreign oil by using clean burning vegetable oil in their Diesel powered Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge trucks. A wide variety of vegetable oils such as Cottonseed, Rapeseed, and Peanut Oil have been shown to provide improved fuel economy with no loss of horsepower when used as fuel oil in Diesel engines. An added bonus to using these type oils to fuel your vehicle is a decrease in particulate emissions and decreased fuel costs. When you hear talk about SVO (straight vegetable oil) or PPO (pure plant oil) fuels, this is what they referring to.

You will also hear talk about French fry grease (WVO) or waste vegetable oil fuels. WVO is a reclaimed fuel source that offers the same advantages as SVO fuels but with one big bonus. Many times it’s free. When fast food restaurants and industry have grease that can no longer be used, they pay to have it hauled away. If you are willing to collect used vegetable oil, and prepare it properly, you may find yourself saving a considerable amount of money. You’ll also help reduce the amount of used grease that finds its way into the landfill.

A hybrid fuel system from American Tank makes it easy to use BioDiesel, straight vegetable oil, or waste vegetable oil in your Diesel engine truck. Our fuel system includes all parts needed for the conversion, preassembled, in one easy to install kit. American Tank

American Tank is a manufacturer of auxiliary fuel systems located in the North Dallas suburb of Frisco Texas. The company was founded in 1998 with the objective of building the best auxiliary fuel system on the market. To us that means selling a fuel system that a consumer can easily install himself and then forget about. We expect you to use our system for a million miles, and then pull it out and install it into your next truck. We are so confident that our fuel tank will last a million miles, we’ll stand behind it for as long as you own it. We do have customers that put it to the test.

Our fuel system is sold as a complete kit including the fuel tank, sending unit, fuel tank selector valve, wire harness, hoses, and hardware. At American Tank “complete” means no trip to the parts store for a bolt, clamp, or a wire connector. It also means that each and every part is proven to work together without headaches. Many people don’t realize that the fuel tank needs to be manufactured so that it’ll properly work with the parts used for installation. If you buy a tank from one place, then a handful of parts from another, you may find yourself starved out on the side of the road with ¼ tank of fuel. Your 50 gallon tank is now a 38.

Our fuel system ships preassembled. Any assembly that can be done without the truck present has been done. The fuel level sending unit is assembled, the resistance is checked, it’s installed in the tank, and then the tank receives its final pressure check with all of its external parts in place. The fuel tank selector valve has the proper hoses in place to plumb into the factory fuel lines, and is bolted to its bracket before going into the kit box. Our wire harness has the switch on one end, plug for the selector valve wired into the middle, and terminated wires running up to the tank. When you unplug a few wires to run the harness through the cab, you can’t plug them back together the wrong way. The competitions idea of a wiring harness seems to be a roll of red wire, a roll of black, and a dozen connectors.

Our fuel system is easy to install by the average “Do It Yourselfer”. Our installation instructions are second to none. They do not contain confusing wire diagrams or pictures with no explanation. They are written by a person who’s spent many an hour on his back installing our product. Any “tips” or “tricks” we use during an installation here are included. Little things like where to go through the cab with wiring, and which fuse to use are included. Do these little things make a difference? They do when your objective is to be the best.

We think customer service still counts, and our customer support is second to none. When you first contact American Tank by telephone, you don’t have the option to dial one for Mike, two for Mark, or three for Rocky. A human will answer the phone from 8:00 to 5:00 Central Standard Time weekdays. No one was born an expert on auxiliary fuel systems. We are happy to spend the time needed to answer all of your questions thoroughly and completely. The Mechanics

During the late 19th century Rudolf Diesel worked to develop an engine that could be used as a replacement for the steam engines which powered industry. Diesel was granted a patent for his internal combustion engine in 1898, and his first successful engine operated in 1897. Diesel realized the importance of using locally produced, renewable fuel sources to power his new engine, and experimented with a variety of fuel sources including extensive testing with fat oils from plants. Today we see that pure plant oils are being used in place of diesel fuel the world over.

If you have been searching the Internet in order to learn about using vegetable oil as a diesel fuel replacement, you no doubt have seen many negative stories about the use of vegetable oils. You will hear about increased maintenance, hard starting, and part failure. These problems can usually be traced back to two factors. The use of poor quality vegetable oil or improperly filtered oil will cause hard starting, increased filter maintenance, and possibly a part failure. If you use improperly filtered WVO, you will spend more time and money replacing fuel filters. If you don’t keep fuel filters properly maintained, you will have starting problems and possibly premature part failure. Other reported problems are frequently due to the condition of the vehicle before converting it into a hybrid fuel vehicle. If you start with a 25 year old vehicle that has 200,000 miles, don’t be surprised if a fuel pump fails after switching to SVO. You may have had a pump that was about to die anyway. If you have a 25 year old pump, sucking improperly filtered fuel through a dirty filter, it won’t last. Make sure you use non-hydrogenated oil that contains no animal fats, never been used with breading, and has been filtered to below 10 microns.

There are challenges involved when using vegetable oils to replace diesel fuel in an engine. The first concern is getting the oil to flow from the fuel tank to the injector, and then back to the fuel tank. The next concern is the ability of the fuel to burn completely once inside the combustion chamber. Then finally, care must be taken to ensure that injectors are properly lubricated, and that fuel system parts are not adversely affected by the vegetable oil. These are obstacles that can be easily overcome.

One way to ensure that the vegetable oil flows freely, burns completely, and lubricates properly is to mix it with another substance that will also burn in the engine. While initial setup costs when using a vegetable oil mixture are minimal, your overall fuel cost per gallon will be higher. People who burn a lot of diesel fuel may be better served with another method. Don’t confuse a vegetable oil mixture with biodiesel fuel. They are not exactly the same.

Heating the vegetable oil before attempting to have it flow through the fuel system is the preferred method. By heating the vegetable oil to 140+ degrees, the viscosity is lowered so that it can be easily moved from the fuel tank to the engine. Keeping the fuel within this range will also help provide proper combustion when introduced into the combustion chamber. The fuel can easily be preheated by using an electric heater, using hot coolant from the engine, or a combination of the two for certain applications. Electric heaters can be designed to plug into the electric grid, or a 12 volt automotive style can be used depending on application and climate considerations.

If you decide to use a fuel system that preheats the vegetable oil, you will have two options. You’ll hear about single tank systems or two tank systems. When using a single tank system, you must preheat the fuel before you can attempt to start the engine. This can be done with an electric heater plugged into the grid. It sometimes will also be necessary to preheat the engine in a similar fashion. You will also need to use an additive for proper lubrication during the start up procedure. As you can guess, with this type of single tank system you’ll need to plan ahead and allow additional time to get the vehicle started. There’ll be no more getting into the vehicle, turning a key and then driving away. If you will be operating your vehicle in a colder climate, a single tank system may not be for you.

A two tank, also know as hybrid fuel or dual fuel system is just what the name implies. You have one type of fuel in one tank, and another type of fuel in an auxiliary tank. Use of a hybrid fuel system first began as an effort to make a diesel engine easier to start when cold. In the 1930’s, International Harvester started production of a tractor that ran on diesel fuel, but was started on gasoline. Today these hybrid fuel systems are popular again and are being used in WVO, SVO, and biodiesel applications. The engine is started on diesel fuel just like you are accustomed to doing. The viscosity of the diesel fuel, lubrication at start up, and proper combustion of the diesel fuel is not an issue. After the vegetable oil has been heated to an acceptable temperature, the driver switches over from diesel fuel to the vegetable oil to run the vehicle. Hot coolant is usually used to heat the oil on these type systems since it is basically a free heat source.

American Tank offers a hybrid fuel system that is a two tank system. We like the dual tank system because objectives such as workable fuel viscosity, complete combustion, proper lubrication, and reliable cold climate operation can be easily achieved. Your factory fuel system is kept mostly intact, and diesel fuel is contained in the factory fuel tank. Your auxiliary fuel tank will be used to hold the vegetable oil. You will choose the diesel fuel or the vegetable oil with the flip of a switch mounted on the dash. The factory installed fuel level gauge will display the fuel level in either tank depending upon which fuel source is being used. If you find yourself in a situation where vegetable oil is not available, fill both tanks with diesel fuel and use the system as a traditional auxiliary fuel system. We think that a hybrid fuel system should be easy to install, easy to use, and easy to maintain by the average person.
